Description
From the vineyard to politics, there's only one step for the owners of Domaine Méo-Camuzet. Étienne Camuzet gifted the estate his impressive collection of crus (Richebourg Grand Cru, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée,...) and at the same time served as a deputy for Côte d'Or from 1902 to 1932. When his daughter died in 1959, Jean Méo, a close family member, took over the estate and gave it its current name: Domaine Méo-Camuzet. At that time, Jean Méo worked as an advisor to General De Gaulle and was head of the Union Générale des Pétroles, before returning to politics in 1979. Domaine Méo-Camuzet only began selling its wines under its own name in 1985. His son, Jean-Nicolas Méo, took control of the estate in 1989, having learned everything from Henri Jayer. The estate's goal is to produce wines that combine structure and finesse, concentration and charm. The balance must be adapted to the terroir and the vintage. Today, the estate employs some organic methods: use of organically certified products, plowing the soil, in-depth knowledge of the plots, and precise viticulture aimed at anticipating diseases and controlling yields.
