Château La Croix Saint-Georges 2016, 0.75
Just a few rows from the iconic Le Pin lies Château La Croix Saint George, which once belonged to the Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem, hence its religious name. The château was purchased by the Janoueix family in 1932. Until recently, La Croix Saint George had no winemaking facilities, and the grapes were transported to the nearby Château La Croix for vinification. When Philippe Janoueix took over in 1999, he built appropriate facilities at La Croix Saint George, and now the wine is produced and aged on site. The 4.2-hectare vineyards are 95% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, with an average age of 38 years. The wines are aged in 100% new wood, with the barrels having an unusual elongated cigar shape to ensure better contact with the lees.
