Chateau Léoville Poyferré 2nd Grand Cru Classé 2016 0.75
In 1920, the Cuvelier family acquired this estate. Since 1979, significant investments in restructuring and modernization have been made by the family to improve the buildings and vineyards. The Château Léoville Poyferré vineyard is planted on gravel soils, which bring balance to the vines' diet. The estate has a real control plan, based on soil analyses, which allows their health status to be monitored. Respect for the terroir and its integrity, maintaining the quality of the soils, which have been cultivated by generations of winemakers. Thanks to this strategy, combining viticultural traditions and the tools offered by modernization, Château Léoville Poyferré produces wines in which the prestigious terroir is fully expressed.
80 hectares of the estate are planted with 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, and 4% Cabernet Franc. Manual harvesting is done in crates and then sorted on tables mechanically and by hand for the first time before destemming, and a second time mechanically and by hand before crushing the fruit. Fermentation is carried out by grape and by plot in 35 stainless steel vats. After numerous tastings, the wine is finally ready: Léoville-Poyferré, which ages 75% in new French oak barrels.
