Chateau Montrose Second Growth 2005, 0.75
Château Montrose entered history in the 19th century thanks to Théodore Dumoulin. The estate's name comes from the color of the plants that once covered the area, known for their beautiful wine lees hue. This "young" estate was only a few years old at the time of the 1855 classification and boasts the most beautiful vineyard in the appellation. After Théodore Dumoulin's death, the estate was sold and acquired by Mr. Dollfus. This true visionary transformed the estate, building additional structures and increasing its technical potential. The château began to resemble a true small village. In the late 19th century, the property joined the Charmol family for more than 3 generations. In 2006, the château was purchased by Martin and Olivier Bouygues. The Bouygues brothers launched a large-scale renovation program for the site with environmental goals. Château Montrose wine is typically a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc, aged in oak barrels (30% new) for 18 months.
Ch. Montrose's 2005 has aromas of wild berries, and the palate is a concentrated ball of dark cassis, combined with earthy notes and wet stone minerality. The fruit here is very ripe, yet it feels elegant in the wine. Very complex, this wine has an exceptionally high level of incredibly fine tannins, which are certainly present on the tongue initially, and then leave perfumed nuances that linger on the palate.
