Description

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron, a leading Pauillac 2ème Cru Classé estate, is one of Bordeaux's most famous "super seconds." In 1987, it was purchased by the AXA Millésimes Group. AXA built a modern winery and vat room at Pichon-Longueville Baron, and in 2000, Christian Seely took over as general manager from Jean-Michel Cazes. The 73-hectare vineyard of Pichon-Longueville-Baron (70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc) is adjacent to that of Château Latour and is situated on deep gravel layers.

Pichon-Longueville Baron, with its Cabernet dominance, is a more muscular, tannic, and dense wine than that of the neighboring Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. The Grand vin is Chateau Longueville au Baron de Pichon-Longueville. The finest examples of Pichon-Longueville Baron have layer upon layer of unctuous, vanilla-scented cassis and blackcurrant fruit mingled with cigar box and lead pencil shavings aromas. At least 10 years of cellar aging are required.
