Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2nd Cru Classé 2016, 0.75
Château Pichon Comtesse is an estate in Pauillac on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. In the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, the estate was ranked as a "Second Growth" and belongs to an unofficial group called "Super Seconds". It is located in the southern part of the Pauillac appellation, immediately next to Château Latour and a short distance from the border with Saint-Julien. The attractive château building here can be seen from the D2 road when approaching Pauillac from the south, on the opposite side of the road from Château Pichon Baron. The two neighbours were once part of a larger estate that was divided into two in 1850. From 1978 until the mid-2000s, Pichon Comtesse was managed by Madame May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, one of the most distinguished women in Bordeaux history.
Today, the estate belongs to the Rouzaud family, owners of Louis Roederer Champagne. The estate, which currently has 80 hectares of vineyards, is managed by the talented winemaker Nicolas Glumineau. Nicolas and his team also manage Château de Pez, a sister estate to the north in Saint-Estèphe.
