Description

Nikolaihof in Mautern, Wachau has a history dating back around two thousand years. It was once a Celtic cult site, part of a Roman fortress, and a bishopric and administrative seat. The cellar is the oldest winery in Austria. The Saahs family has owned Nikolaihof for 125 years and were absolute pioneers in biodynamic farming in 1971. Riesling and Grüner Veltliner are predominantly cultivated on 22 hectares according to Demeter's strict biodynamic guidelines. The wines ferment on their own yeasts and are stored in large, old oak barrels in the historic Roman wine cellar for up to 20 years.

Bottled after 6 months of barrel aging. The Riesling grapes are grown on loamy and Danube gravel terrains.
