Kristancic

Kristancic

The winery is located in the Goriška Brda region, the Slovenian equivalent of Tuscany, known for its elegant white Ribolla wines and orange wines. Located in the far west of Slovenia, the winery is in a remote area surrounded by mountain ranges to the east and north, with a single road from Nova Gorica. To get there, you have to drive several kilometres through Italy before finding yourself on the other side of Slovenia! With its orchids, cypresses, and vineyards, Kristancic is a beautiful place to visit. The main philosophy of the wines is to reveal a connection with nature, and the distinctive peacock motif first appeared in 1990 to reflect this modern-traditional approach. The peacock, showing off its colourful tail, is just one aspect of nature's vast beauty, which carries strength and purpose within it.

The winery's wines are not only complex but also distinguished by a rich, intoxicating symphony of taste and aroma, created by human ideas that guide the epochs of natural evolution. They are the fruit of life experience, hard work, many years of experience, and extensive knowledge.

All wines are dry; young wines are bright and fresh, while aged wines show complexity and texture. The distinctive signature of Marko and the winery team are balanced, elegant wines with a medium body and long finish; the acidity and fruit quality ensure that the wines have excellent aging potential.

Region

Due to its hills and beautiful villages, Brda is sometimes called "Slovenian Tuscany." It is located in the westernmost part of the country, in the Collio region, which it shares with neighboring Italy. What makes this area so special for viticulture is the fact that we are located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Julian Alps.

Climate and soils

The unique climate in the Brda region combines the freshness of the Alps with the pleasant influences of the Mediterranean, producing the best wines with a wide range of aromas. The trademark of Brda wines is their minerality, which is due to the special marl and flysch soil called "Opoka." The combination of climate, soil, and relief has made the region one of the most interesting wine cultures in the world. Brda has the highest yield of medals and awards among all Slovenian wine regions.

Wine

The local grape variety Rebula or Ribolla Gialla is the rising star among white varieties. Rebula is a wine with many faces – modern due to its directness, simplicity and purity, popular because it carries a centuries-old cultural tradition, and internationally recognized because the best Rebula grapes come from the Brda region.
