The Tement winery was established in 1959. Josef and Edina Timent started with only two hectares of vineyards. The Zieregg and Grassnitz vineyards are located on both sides of the house. Manfred Temment had to take over the small family winery too young after his father died early. The only advantage the young winemaker had was his father's good reputation. Since then, many things have changed and the Temment winery is constantly evolving. However, one thing never changes: the love of wine and the pursuit of the best quality. Today the winery is run by Armin Temment and his brother Stefan. The two brothers were born and raised in a winery and taking over the family business was their calling.

Armin graduated in 2005 and spent several internships abroad and in Austria. Today he is responsible for the family winery. He worked side by side with his father Manfred and gained full trust for the entire production in 2008. The two form a good team and develop their vineyards in accordance with the principles of organic culture. The first 10 hectares are turning into 100% organic plantations with more and more vineyards.

With the harvest of 2008, Tement is officially certified bio-organic. In 2019, the vineyards in Slovenia will follow.

In 2009, the international jury of the "50 Best Wine Vineyards" selected the Tement winery as one of the 15 wineries in the world worth visiting.

Grapes

For decades, the Tement wine cellar has been synonymous with the highest quality and elegance in winemaking. One of the principles that brothers Stefan and Armin Temment follow is to work in full sync with nature. This is mainly reflected in the production of wines exclusively from local grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Welsch Riesling, Gelber Muscatel, Weisburggunder and Morion. All these varieties have a history in the province of Styria, thanks to the regional climate and specific conditions. According to them, they see their wine as it is: a snapshot in time, far from any predictability.

Terroir

Today, the Tement winery has vineyards on both sides of the border: on the Slovenian side and on the Austrian side. In this way, the family wants to show the differences and characteristics of the two terroirs. It may seem difficult to achieve, but every drop of sweat and every minute of hard work is worth it. The most valuable vineyards of the winery have two common features: they are located on slopes facing south and all are located at high altitude. These characteristics provide the vineyards with a special microclimate that helps to create wines with a perfect acidic structure.

Vinification

To recreate the beauty and charm of Styria is not an easy task. Fortunately, a wine classification system has been set up in 2018. Wines are divided into Gebietsweine (territorial wines), Ortsweine (rural wines) and Riedenweine (wines from one vineyard). The quality requirements are particularly high. Also, each stage of crop processing must be done manually. To achieve the high goals they set for themselves, winemakers must harvest the harvest at the right time and treat the grapes in the cellar very carefully. The fermentation is carried out naturally and the harvest from each vineyard is vinified separately.
