Ch\u00e2teau Cheval Blanc, a 1er Grand Cru Class\u00e9 (A) is unquestionably the leading estate in St. Emilion. It is located in the north-west of the St. Emilion appellation, bordering Pomerol. Cheval Blanc produces the most famous Cabernet Franc-based wine in the world and present winemaker Pierre Lurton is amongst the most talented winemakers working in Bordeaux today. One of four Saint-\u00c9milion wineries to enjoy the status of Premier Grand Cru Class\u00e9 \"A\", alongside Ch\u00e2teau Ang\u00e9lus, Ch\u00e2teau Ausone and Ch\u00e2teau Pavie; Ch\u00e2teau Cheval Blanc produces the world\u2019s greatest Cabernet Franc-based wine and is a reference point for the best that can be achieved with the grape. Ch\u00e2teau Cheval Blanc's history can be traced back to the 1830s when the Ducasse family purchased a patch of land and vines from Ch\u00e2teau Figeac. This land, combined with a number of parcels bought from other wineries, eventually became the Cheval Blanc estate that we know today. The historic Ch\u00e2teau was built in the late 1800s and is now recognised as one of the most beautiful and classic examples of Bordeaux wine architecture.
