Domaine Wachau
Domaine Wachau presents the 300-year history of wine evolution, constant innovation and fresh ideas. Through the soils, the microclimate and the specific grape varieties of Lower Austria, they create ideal conditions for growing first-class wines.
Today, Domaine Wachau is one of the leading wineries in Austria. A key element for the growth of the winery is the dedicated work of over 250 families in the Wachau region. As most of the vineyards are located on steep slopes, the cultivation must be done almost entirely by hand. Among the prerequisites for the long-term production of wines and their specific origin are careful care of the vines, the principles of sustainable cultivation and continuous vitalization of the soils.
Roman Horvat has been the director of Domaine Wachau since 2004. The strategic reorientation and the uncompromising search for the highest quality carry his handwriting. Thanks to his vast experience abroad and his successful study, he became the second Austrian Master of Wine winner in 2009. Mr Horvat is well aware of the enormous potential of the Wachau region in an international context. In the person of Mr. Heinz Frischengruber, who was born in Wachau and graduated in oenology and viticulture at the University of Geisenheim, he found a trusted partner and shared their vision for the development of the region. After gaining experience in South Africa and California, Frischengruber has been Domaine Wachau's technical director and oenologist since 2005. He and his competent team are a kind of bridge with the wine families in Wachau.
