What should we know about the different types of tea?

Usually the word "tea" means a brew of dried tea tree leaves. According to the way they are dried and fermented, several types are formed: green, black, yellow, white, oolong and pu-erh. It is from these that the drink, known in China for more than 1,000 years before the New Era, was made. It was brought to Europe in the 17th century. Along with the traditional refreshing tea tree liquid, the name 'tea' is also used for decoctions and infusions of various herbs.

Here you can discover a little more about the specifics of some of the most popular types:

Green tea

This is the variety where the leaves of the tea bush are subjected to minimal oxidation and therefore contain the least amount of caffeine (about 35 milligrams in a 250 ml cup). The drink has an invigorating effect and boosts the mood, which is why it is often recommended for fatigue and tiredness. In addition, it has a cleansing effect on the body, lowers cholesterol and helps to eliminate toxins.

Black tea

This is the variety where the tea leaves undergo further fermentation after drying. The presence of a relatively large amount of tannins and caffeine in it is the reason why the drink is highly energizing and concentration-aiding. It increases brain activity even after sleep deprivation. These characteristics bring it closer to the properties of coffee, but unlike it, the caffeine levels here are about twice as low.

Indian

Its main ingredient is again black tea leaves, but characteristic Indian spices such as cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, etc. are added. The drink stimulates the mind and reduces stress.

Earl Grey

For its preparation, tea leaves are used (in the beginning only black, today - of all kinds) plus oil from bergamot peel. It is named after its creator, the British Prime Minister of the 1930s, Charles Grey.

English breakfast

As its name suggests, this drink was created as a complement to the traditional breakfast in England, its main ingredients being Indian and Ceylon tea.

White tea

The leaves and buds of the tea plant are used for it. It is called white because of the fine moss with which the buds are covered, and the liquid itself is yellowish. Characteristically, it is rich in antioxidants.

Rooibos

This is a type of herbal tea for which the leaves of the eponymous South African plant of the legume family are used. It does not contain caffeine. It is known for its antioxidant properties as well as its ability to stimulate metabolism. Its consumption improves metabolism, skin health, bone health, etc.
