Zagrey Wine Cellar is a modern complex with a fully completed production cycle, starting with the grapes and ending with a bottle of wine. Equipped with the most modern fermentation equipment. This allows for optimization and control of all processes of vinification, maturation, stabilization and bottling of wines. We do not use any synthetic chemicals in vinification. Yeast for fermentation is guaranteed GMO-free. Only additives of natural origin, derived from natural products - plant, mineral, microorganisms without GMOs are allowed. Sulfur dioxide, which is added before bottling to prevent oxidation, is half of the maximum permitted for conventional wine.

At Zagrey Wine Cellar, we strongly believe that what happens in the vineyards and in our minds largely determines what happens in the bottle. Our goal is to create a wine that reflects the best and most beautiful in ourselves. The point is to be consistent in our pursuit of higher quality with the idea of preserving the nature around us.

Vineyards

The beginning of the vineyard is set in the fall of 1998, and we currently have 1,200 acres of our own vineyards. The varieties that are grown are Mavrud, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. The conditions are ideal for obtaining raw material, with the necessary indicators for high quality wines and picking grapes at full technological maturity.999

Terroir

The vineyard is located in one of the most favorable in terms of soil and climatic regions of Bulgaria - Plovdiv field, which is part of the Upper Thracian lowlands. The main color of the soil is dark cinnamon red. Under these conditions, in July, when the grapes are ripe, it is sunny for an average of 10 hours a day.

Climate

Climatically, the region belongs to the Transitional Continental Area. The temperature regime is characterized by mild winters and hot summers. The average annual air temperature is 12.3 ° C. The duration of frost-free time is on average 210 days. The average annual rainfall is 565 mm. The area enters the zone of the longest periods of sunshine, which averages 2293 hours per year.

Since 2010 the vineyards are grown according to the norms of the European Union for organic production, and in 2013, after a mandatory three-year trial period, we received a certificate for organic production. In the cultivation of grapes we do not use synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, as well as GMO organisms. Only sulfur preparations (blue stone, green stone) and extracts from plants and strains of microorganisms that have an insecticidal effect are used. Maintaining a vineyard with such preparations is time consuming because it requires more preventive measures and labor.
