Description
Libbey is a native of East Cambridge, Massachusetts, home of the New England Glass Company, founded in 1818. In 1888, Edward Drummond Libby, the son of the first corporate owner, William, moved the company to Toledo, Ohio. The northwestern region of Ohio offers abundant natural gas resources and access to large deposits of high-quality sand. Toledo also has a network of rail and shipping lines, making it an ideal place for the company. In 1892, the name was changed to The Libbey Glass Company.
Libby and Toledo became a combination made in paradise and so the city of glass was born.
