Chateau Burgozone wine cellar

Chateau Burgozone

The Burgozone team is guided by the philosophy that 80% from the quality of a wine is created in the vineyards. We make wines with an individual character and a "sense of belonging", which are indicative of the potential of the Danube region.

To the north, where grapes from the time of the Thracians were grown on the slopes of the Danube, is Chateau Burgozone - a cellar in the shape of a fortress and named after a Roman fort. We are a boutique family cellar, perched on the banks of the great Danube, among the vineyards that stretch to the horizon. As independent wine growers, we have the ambition to present modern and elegant Bulgarian wines.

Chateau Burgozone is a family boutique winery from Northwestern Bulgaria. The winery is located near the town of Oryahovo, on the banks of the Danube River, overlooking the island of Esperanto. The winery gets its name from the Roman fortress Burgozone, built on the ancient Roman road Via Istrum. Over the centuries, the region is famous as one of the main wine regions of Bulgaria.

The selection of an array for the construction of a vineyard began in 2000. A unique terroir of 100 hectares with proven potential for growing grapes of the highest quality was selected.

All Chateau Burgozone wines are made from their own grapes, which are picked and sorted by hand. As a result of "canopy management" and "green grape picking", reflected in intensive manual operations in the vineyard, yields are limited and the grapes are of the highest quality.

In wine production we are guided by a minimalist intervention in vinification, paying special attention to varietal characteristics. The style of Burgozone is the result of a unique terroir, influenced by the Danube River and the know-how of two famous Bulgarian oenologists and can be described as SPF - Fresh, Fruit and Finn.

Each glass of Burgozone wine takes you on a journey along the Danube.

Grapes

All our wines are made from hand-picked and sorted grapes and are bottled on site to emphasize the unique terroir. We carefully apply "canopy management" and "green pruning" techniques to limit yields from 45 to 20 hl / ha. We practice "sustainable viticulture", which together with environmental responsibility are one of our priorities.

Terroir

The vineyard of Burgozone of 100 hectares is located at 43 ° north latitude, on slopes from 140 to 180 meters above sea level and consists of high quality branches of elite varieties planted on soil of powerful loess. The vineyard is located in an area with a temperate continental climate, with hot days and cool nights influenced by the Danube River.

Vineyards

Our vineyards include 11 international grape varieties (Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Cabernet Franc, Marseille, Syrah, Eggiodola, Merlot) and 2 local - Gamza (red) and Tamianka (white). To ensure the complexity of our wines, we rely on branch diversity (over 30 different branches). The average age of the vineyards is 10 years.
