Markus Huber
Marcus Huber was born in 1979 and received his education in viticulture and oenology in Klosterneuburg, Austria. The family winery of the Markus Huber family is more than 250 years old. After visiting South Africa in 2000, Marcus began to gradually expand and improve the equipment in his winery. Today it is one of the most popular Austrian wineries and today Markus Huber wines are drunk in over 20 countries around the world, including North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Since then, our goal has been to produce white wines of the highest quality that reflect their origins. Huber wines are distinguished by their elegance, fine minerality, precision and complexity.
Marcus Huber was named Austrian "Winemaker of the Year at Falstaff 2015". Marcus Huber is a married and proud father of three daughters.
The youngest wine-growing region in Austria is also one of the smallest. The Trisenthal region has only about 770 hectares of vineyards. This is an excellent area - especially because of the leading grape variety Gruner Veltliner. While most of the small wine villages here feature traditional, down-to-earth Heurigen wine and taverns, larger cities such as Traismauer and Herzogenburg offer a glimpse into history. Since the 2006 harvest, typically fruity and spicy Gruner Veltliners and juicy, mineral Rieslings are the first wines to be marketed with the Traisental DAC quality certificate.
Grapes
In no other Austrian wine-growing region is the Gruner Veltliner variety such a large part of the total area. Cultivated in 63% from Traisenthal vineyards, Gruner Veltliner is the most preferred variety. However, Riesling is also a specialty of the Trisenthal region. The vines are planted mainly on terraced slopes, composed of dry and very calcareous gravelly soils. They give the wines their individual profile and the characteristic dense body. Minerals provide taste and maintain the acidic structure, which helps increase the longevity of wines. Pannonian influences, combined with the cool air of the Alps, lead to warm days and cool nights.
Terroir
Many of the world's best wines are grown from limestone-rich soils, and the Triezental Valley is the only wine-producing region in Lower Austria where this type of soil is found. The limestone soil here forms the basis of the best places for growing wine. Limestone soils are rich in valuable minerals and help the optimal water supply of the vines. This provides varieties such as Gruner Veltliner with its unambiguous spiciness and Riesling with its characteristic dense body. For this reason, Marcus Huber wines have great potential for aging.
Climate
The Traisenthal valley is located at the intersection of the Pannonian and continental climates. Here the cool breeze, which is carried by the nearby Alps, meets warm air currents coming from the valley of the Danube. In this way conditions are created for extreme differences in temperatures during the day and night. This natural phenomenon is of great importance during the ripening season of grapes, as it is extremely useful for the development of the aroma of wines. All these elements together help Marcus Huber wines to develop their specific character.
