Wine is not a work of art, nor is it an ordinary product. It is a mystery and magic, it is the solar energy transformed into unique colors, aromas and tastes.

Just an hour's drive from Sofia, you can discover and visit the modern Medi Valley wine complex. The winery was chosen as Cellar of the Year for 2016. Medi Valley is located in a picturesque area on the road to the Rila Monastery. From here begins the southwestern wine region, known as the Struma Valley.

The attractive geographical location of the winery makes it the most charming new destination for wine tourism. Medi Valley wines are among the most awarded by a number of national and world wine forums.

Thousands of years ago, the lands along the Struma River were inhabited by the Thracian tribe Medi. Apart from the legendary Spartacus, the Medes are known for their developed viticulture and winemaking and their cult of wine. In honor of the people who laid the foundations of winemaking in this part of the valley is called the winery - Medi Valley (Valley of the Medes).

Medi Vali is a classic wine complex, built in 2007. It is located in the village of Smochevo, at the foot of southwestern Rila, at 630 m above sea level, in the northernmost part of the valley of the river Struma, on the picturesque road to the Rila Monastery. It consists of a modern wine cellar and 370 decares of vineyards, planted with the varieties Chardonnay, Traminer, Sauvignon Blanc, two branches of Merlot and two branches of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Vineyards

The vineyards are southwestern, on alluvial-meadow and cinnamon forest soils, draining, slightly acidic, with adequate content of clay and iron. Interestingly, they contain small carbonate fragments that act as natural drainage and contribute to the mineral notes in white wines. The formations of the vineyards are single, double and double low-stemmed Guyot, with 400 vines planted in one decare. It consists of 370 decares of vineyards, planted with the varieties Chardonnay, Traminer, Sauvignon Blanc, two branches of Merlot and two branches of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Terroir

The unique terroir for viticulture favors the cultivation of both white and red varieties, which with planned, timely and appropriate agro-technical measures and reduced yield, in accordance with the technological requirements of oenologists, give grapes from which to make impressive wines of high quality. is a humus-carbonate formed on the main limestone rock. It is mixed with sand and clay, and countless shells of mussels and crustaceans of ancient origin make it unique. The varieties are Chardonnay, Viognier, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Rondo.

Climate

The climate is temperate - continental with influence from the Danube River. The vineyard is located at 125 m above sea level on terrain with pronounced displacement. It is characterized by mild winters and relatively dry summers. The average sunshine is 2900 hours and the average annual rainfall is 588 mm.

In 2010 in Medi Valley the realization of the new concept of the winery began, the aim of which is to turn it into the pearl of the Bulgarian southwest. The creation of interesting, rich, specific terroir wines with their own style and unique character begins, made from grapes specially selected for each variety and type of wine in optimal maturity. Medi Valley wines are divided by variety and style into different price and quality categories. The brands under which they are produced and sold are the base series - A Good Year, the series of the middle class eXcentric Incanto and the premium brand Incanto.
