Located in the heart of a region famous for viticulture and winemaking since the time of the Thracians, Sintika Wine Cellar is the new incarnation of the Complex Experimental Station built in the middle of the last century in the town of Sandanski.
Sintika Wine Cellar is a modern complex that combines tradition and innovation in wine production. Numerous exotic plant species such as ginkgo biloba, parnar, olives, cypresses, palms, citrus trees, paradise apple and others are preserved on the territory of the complex. The landscape has not changed, and the new construction is harmoniously inscribed in this true botanical garden. Built as a classic wine mansion, including the production of elite wines and opportunities for wine tourism, recreation and business meetings. The complex is completed by a new Spa Hotel with a relaxation area.
Sintika Wine Cellar has 325 decares. own vineyards (175 decares of which are currently being created) from the varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Early Melnik vineyard, using elite French planting material.
2008 is the first year of the new history of Sintika Wine Cellar. Only the unique underground cellar for storage and aging of wines has been preserved from the previous winery. The cellar has a constant natural temperature of 14º C and natural air ventilation.
Vineyards
Over the decades, the experimental agricultural center has developed many branches and variations of different crops, leaving a bright mark through the creation of unique grape varieties Early Melnik vine (Melnik 55), Melnik Rubin, Sandanski Muscat and others. Inheriting these decades-old traditions in wine production, Sintika Wine Cellar appeared on the Bulgarian wine list in 2008 as an entirely new and modern wine complex.
Terroir
The main reason for viticulture in the southernmost part of the Struma River Valley has survived through the centuries is the unique terroir of this region. The region is characterized by a relatively small number of foggy days - only 5 days a year, and only during the winter months. The temperature sum of the vegetation period is 4385 ° С, relative air humidity July - August 61%, and the altitude of the terrain averages 200 m. These favorable climatic conditions, together with the strongly eroded clay-sandy soils favor the cultivation of vineyards to give grapes with excellent characteristics
Climate
The climate is transitional - Mediterranean. The average annual temperature in Sandanski is 14.1ºС, and the average relative humidity is the lowest for the country - 66%. The average number of days with precipitation over 1 mm is only 69-70. The duration of sunshine in Sandanski is the longest for the country - 2506 hours. During the winter months, the snow cover in the area lasts only a few days, and the winter itself is mild.
Sintika Wine Cellar has won dozens of awards from national and international exhibitions, including four Golden Rhyton Awards, awarded to Vinaria 2010, 2011, 2014 and 2016. The winery's own vineyards are located in an extremely favorable region along the Struma River Valley. in close proximity to the Rupite area, the extinct volcano Kozhuh and the ancient Thracian city.
