Trastena

The legend of raspberry wine was born a long time ago: it is almost as old as the Cyrillic alphabet!

Trastena raspberry wine is made in the Trastenaya area of the Balkan Mountains, which is particularly favorable for its clean air. It rises high above Lakatnik. Stories of elderly people from the nearby village of Bov claim that there were wine plantations in the fields around the Trastenaya hut of the same name in the past.

The legend of raspberry wine was born at the time when the monastery of St. Panteleimon still existed. It was built on the site of an ancient Thracian sanctuary by students of Cyril and Methodius. The monks spent time not only in prayers but also in the production of raspberry wine. It tempted pilgrims from all over to visit and taste the elixir. The recipe was strictly kept and passed down from generation to generation.
