Erwin Sabathi
The Erwin Sabathi winery is run by Erwin and his wife Patricia. Erwin Gerd's two younger brothers and Christoph also hold key positions in running the family business. The winery has been completely modernized and all modern technologies for sustainable cultivation of vineyards have been introduced. However, the Sabati family relies mainly on the manual cultivation of the vineyards due to the steep slopes on which the vineyard is located.
The tradition of winemaking has existed in the Sabati family since 1650. The ancestor of the family is Jorg Sabati. Generations of members of the Sabati family took care of the Pilchenhof manor until 1914. The winery later moved to the Knappenhof mansion in Sernau until 1938. In 1938, Johan Sabati sold the Knappenhof manor and together with his wife Ludmila he bought today's meat. where today are the manor, vineyard and winery of the Sabati family in Pösnitz.
In the 1950s, Johann Sabati discovered the potential of Pössnitzberg and cultivated his first crop. At that time, the vineyards of the Sabati family were already cultivating their 50-year-old Sauvignon Blanc vineyards and were known throughout Austria.
In 1968, Erwin Sabati Sr. took control of the winery. Since then, every vintage of Single Vineyard Pössnitzberg wines has been stored in the family cellar. He gradually expanded and developed the winery by buying and renting additional areas with vineyards. A great success was the reproduction of the precious DNA of the Sauvignon Blanc vines by his father.
The modern vision of the winery began its development in 1992, when Erwin Sabati Jr. took over the management of his parents' family winery. . On this basis he founded his own winery "Erwin Sabathi". The next step in the process was the construction of a new wine cellar, located next to the family estate. In 2004 is the vinification of the first harvest in his new wine cellar. As the owner of the building of this new wine cellar, he was awarded the "Victor Geramb-Dunkzeichen" for incredible construction in Styria.
