Description

In 1920 the Couvelier family acquired this property. Since 1979, major investments in restructuring and modernization have been made by the family to improve the buildings and vineyards. The vineyard at Château Léoville Poyferre is planted on gravelly soils that bring balance to the diet of the vines. The estate has a real control plan based on soil analyses that allows to monitor their health. Respect for the terroir and its integrity, maintaining the quality of the soils that have been worked by generations of winemakers. Thanks to this strategy, combining the descendants of viticulture and the tools offered by modernisation, Château Léoville Poyferre produces wines in which the prestigious terroir is fully expressed.

80 hectares of the estate are planted to 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Hand harvesting is carried out in crates and then sorted on the tables mechanically and manually for the first time before pruning the bunches and for the second time mechanically and manually before crushing the fruit. Fermentation is carried out from grapes and by parcel in 35 stainless steel vats. After numerous tastings, the wine is finally ready: a Léoville-Poiféré that is aged 75% in new French barrels.

Colour: Deep purple colour.
Aroma: Powerful and complex aroma with notes of ripe, black fruits, blackberry and mulberry. Aromas of vanilla, black pepper, cloves, dark chocolate, leather and cocoa.
Taste: Powerful and sweet tannins, which provide an excellent body, combined with freshness. The aftertaste is intense, elegant and long lasting.
We recommend consuming the wine up to 20 years after bottling.
ABV: 13,5%
Recommended serving temperature: 16-18°C with minimum one hour decanting.
