Description

The history of Château Mouton Rothschild is that of a magical encounter between soil, climate and the passion of a man: Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Led by two exceptional personalities, Baron Philippe de Rothschild (1902 – 1988) and his daughter, the Baroness Philippine (1933 – 2014), Château Mouton Rothschild is also a space of art and beauty thanks to its spectacular Grand Chai with a mesmerising perspective, its famous Museum of Wine in Art which brings together two millennia of precious objects associated with the vineyard and the wine and also thanks to its new and magnificent Cuvier, inaugurated in 2013.
Château Mouton Rothschild belongs today to the three children of the Philippine Baroness: Camille Sereys de Rothschild, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the family company Baron Philippe de Rothschild, in charge of the Château management, and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, Vice-President. Faithfully following the work of their grandfather and their mother, all three are committed to perpetuating the motto of the illustrious Premier Cru: “Mouton does not change”. Even if he changes! The vineyard of Château Mouton Rothschild, comprising 75 hectares of mainly gravel-based soils, is planted to 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot.

Description

Description

Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot
Colour: A fine deep ruby red colour.
Aroma: Refined cassis nose with notes of applewood and soft spice.
Taste: On the palate really expansive and richly textured with sweet, vibrant blackcurrant fruit. Scintillating acidity, beautifully ripe and grainy tannins, and lifted minerality made for an energetic and vital structural feel - but it was the sheer velvety fruit, silky elegance and sense of purity and length that gripped the senses. A magical, lilting wine with ethereal touches - outstanding potential.
Serving temperature: 16-18°C with minimum 1 hour decanting before serving.

Food pairing

Roasted veal with mushroom sauce, lamb filet with herbal sauce...

Goes well with read meats, game, Roast veal with morel sauce, lamb fillet with herb jus, roast venison or by itself.
