Description

Located just south of St-Julien, Château Lamothe Bergeron is 200 years old and was inherited by Jacques de Bergeron in the 18th Century. A politician, he escaped the guillotine but was exiled to his country estate by the French Revolution in 1796 and became a noted expert on vines. The domain is situated on the ‘motte’ (or plot of high land) also referenced in the name. It was sold to Cognac H. Mounier and Hardy in 2009. Today Mery Laurent is in charge helped by Hubert de Boüard, co-owner of Chateau Angelus, who advise Lamothe Bergeron during winemaking process. Lamothe Bergeron has 66 hectares of vineyards, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (52%), Merlot (34%) and Cabernet Franc (14%). The wines are fermented in temperature- controlled stainless steel vats and are matured in small barriques (25% new) for 18 months.
